Being Child Like In Our Ways

Matthew 18:1

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

What a radical idea Jesus is teaching here.

As we grow older we grow into the corruption, bitterness, and worldliness. When we are children, the lucky of us, don’t have to deal with this. Instead as children we are pure and untouchable as we are accidently ignorant, so nothing can corrupt us.

Jesus is saying, in Heaven the greatest person is one who can live so lovingly, act so purely, and go through this life ever so humbly that the world can not shake them. That the world may not change them just because of their age, but that they stay as children do throughout their lives.

Jesus has called us to act as children do.

We need to remain humble and abstain from wanting greed, power, honor, and fame. We need to humbly live despite what the world wants us to be.

That is a radical calling to each of us. Jesus doesn’t want the most powerful, the wealthiest, the one that everyone knows, he simply wants us as we are in our uncorruptable humble loving state we are born in as children.

You are a child of God.

Be child like in your faith and don’t let the world get to you because Jesus has overcome.
